Health & Safeguarding

At Kickstarz, we take our responsibility to safeguard every child and young person entrusted to our care extremely seriously. We are committed to providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all our players, parents, and staff.

For the purposes of this policy, a child or young person is anyone under the age of 18 participating in our fun football sessions in Rochdale, events, or activities. We follow and endorse the Football Association’s (FA) Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures, ensuring that our approach aligns with recognised best practice. This ensures that all children are protected while taking part in our kids and toddler football classes in Rochdale.

Free Trial and Medical Information

When booking a free trial or becoming a Kickstarz member, parents/guardians must inform us of any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, or medications relevant to their child. This ensures we can take appropriate steps to keep every participant safe. It remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian to assess whether the session is suitable for their child.

Our Safeguarding Principles

  • The welfare of the child is our paramount consideration at all times.

  • All children, regardless of age, gender, ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, or background, have the right to protection from abuse, harm, and neglect.

  • All concerns or allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and addressed promptly, following the FA’s recommended processes.

  • Every child at Kickstarz should be able to enjoy football in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

  • Safeguarding is the responsibility of every adult involved in Kickstarz, from coaches and volunteers to support staff and officials.

Responsible Recruitment

We adopt the FA’s responsible recruitment guidelines, which include:

  • Clearly defining each role and its responsibilities.

  • Requesting appropriate identification and references.

  • Interviewing all applicants where possible.

  • Requiring an FA-accepted Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with Barring List for eligible roles.

  • Ensuring all coaching staff hold valid safeguarding certificates and up-to-date FA coaching qualifications.

Commitment to Safety

If concerns arise about any individual involved with Kickstarz, guidance will be sought from the FA. We follow FA guidelines to prevent individuals with a history of relevant offences from working with children. This helps prevent harm and reduces the risk of grooming or exploitation.

We also support the FA’s Whistleblowing Policy. Anyone with concerns about a person in a position of trust can contact:

  • The FA Safeguarding Team on 0800 169 1863

  • The FA Case Manager via safeguarding@TheFA.com

  • The Police, Children’s Social Care, or the NSPCC directly

Welfare Officers

Kickstarz has appointed a Club Welfare Officer in line with FA requirements. This officer is the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and works closely with the County FA’s Welfare Officer. They are responsible for raising awareness of safeguarding, poor practice, and the FA’s Respect programme.

Anti-Bullying Stance

We recognise bullying as a form of abuse and have a zero-tolerance policy towards it. All incidents will be taken seriously and dealt with promptly. In serious cases, we may involve the County FA Welfare Officer.

Respect Codes of Conduct

Kickstarz follows the FA’s Respect Codes of Conduct for players, parents/carers, coaches, and officials. Breaches of the code may lead to disciplinary action in line with FA guidelines.
